Electric Vehicle Affordability Program Requirements
If you’re thinking about a new Kia EV, here’s what you need to know to qualify for the federal rebate:
- Purchase or lease date: Only vehicles bought or leased on or after February 16, 2026, are eligible. Deals started before this date won’t qualify, even if the vehicle is delivered later.
- Price limit: The final transaction must be $50,000 or less, though there is no limit for EVs made in Canada.
- Manufacturing origin: Vehicles must be built in Canada or in a country that has a free-trade agreement with Canada.
- Safety standards: The vehicle must comply with Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
- Road-ready: Must be highway-capable and intended for public road use (low-speed vehicles are not eligible).
- Wheels: Must have at least four functioning wheels.
- New vehicle status: Only new vehicles registered for the first time qualify.
- Demos: Vehicles with under 10,000 km on the odometer may qualify as demonstrators, such as dealership test-drive vehicles.
Note: Incentives will gradually decrease over the course of the program. The exact rebate amount depends on the date your dealership submits your Eligibility Assessment to Transport Canada, not the date you buy, lease, or receive the vehicle.
BEV vs PHEV Rebate Amounts
The federal rebate you may be eligible for when purchasing your Kia depends on both the type of vehicle and your chosen payment option. Below is a chart outlining the incentives available as of 2026:
| Fuel Type* | Incentive for Purchase or 48-month Lease** | Incentive for 36-month Lease | Incentive for 24-month Lease | Incentive for 12-month Lease |
| BEV | $5,000 | $3,750 | $2,500 | $1,250 |
| PHEV | $2,500 | 1,875 | $1,250 | $625 |
*BEV – Battery Electric Vehicle (fully electric)/PHEV – Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle
**Incentives will gradually decrease over the 5-year program. The exact amount you receive will be based on the date your eligibility assessment is submitted.
