While the base engine of the Nissan Murano is more powerful (260-hp vs 178-hp), it is the only engine available across the model's trim levels. The Sorento offers three engines across its available trims: the base 178-hp, 2.4-liter inline-four GDI engine, a 240-hp, 2.0-liter turbo GDI engine and a 290-hp, 3.3-liter GDI V6 engine.
For drivers with safety and security at the top of their needs, the Sorento is a clear choice. The Sorento was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), while the Murano was not awarded anything for 2018.
The interior of the Sorento offers much more space and comfort than the Murano, offering more passenger volume, cargo volume, front and rear legroom, front and rear hiproom, as well as an available third row that allows seating for up to seven passengers.
Other high-tech features you'll find on the Sorento but not the Murano include a power rear liftgate and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility.
