Can the Oilers Reach the NHL Playoffs in the 2018-19 Season?

Edmonton Oilers 2018-19 Season Preview 

During the 2017-18 season, the Edmonton Oilers were unable to capitalize on their playoff appearance in the 2016-17 season where they fell one game short of reaching the Western Conference Final. The Oilers hope to return to the playoffs in 2018-19 for the second season in the last four years. After the disappointing 2017-18 season, this year is make-or-break for the Oilers’ front office and coaching staff lead by GM Peter Chiarelli and HC Todd McLellan. Let’s take a look at what Oilers fans can expect from the upcoming season.  

Oilers Offseason Changes 

The offseason marked several changes for the Oilers roster that is highlighted by the addition of the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, Evan Bouchard (RD). In addition to their draft picks, the Oilers made a few key additions through free agency including the signings of Kyle Brodziak (C), Kevin Gravel (LD), Jakub Jerabek (LD), Mikko Koskinen (G), and Tobias Rieder. These players hope to help bolster a solid roster of players that underperformed last season. Ultimately this season will be based on whether the team’s core players can bounce back to their ability after a down season.
